Having the 'right' entertainment at an event can
make the difference between a so-so time and a fantastic time. But
having the wrong entertainment can be worse than having no entertainment at all! So
how can you improve your chances of selecting an entertainer who is right
for you?
There are many possible solutions. For
instance:
Request and review promotional audio and video tapes from each
entertainer.
Attend
many performances of many entertainers, then select who you like best.
Contact people who have seen performances by the entertainers and
ask their opinions.
Let your intuition guide you.
Get a professional recommendation from
someone who's business is to know the entertainers and their capabilities, and who is
skilled at asking the right questions to determine your needs. Someone like a staff
member of  , for instance...
Of course, everything worth having comes
with a price tag. In this case you may have to pay a bit more for a
pre-qualified entertainer. We help the entertainers appreciate what they are worth
in the marketplace, plus we charge the entertainer a fee of 10% to 20% for the
business we refer to them. Some entertainers increase their prices to compensate for this.
*A booking
service is different from an agency.
The difference between the two
is that a booking service does general advertising for entertainment and then hangs back
to see what shakes out rather than taking on a select few entertainers and specifically
promoting them. This subtle difference allows us to remain much more objective
about which entertainers we recommend.
In order to participate,
entertainers tell us:
What they do,
How good they are at it (in
their opinion),
When and where they are
willing do it,
How much they charge for doing
it,
Who they have done it for,
When and where they did it,
When and where they will be
doing it.
If photographs, audio and video
tapes, CD's, reviews, letters of recommendation, and reference lists are available, we
request, review and file copies.
We spot-check their information,
then plug it into the computer. Some of it will be posted to the Internet.
We also reserve
the right to follow up with the client to get a review of their
performance. Bad reviews that appear to have foundation will
disqualify an entertainer from future referrals.
